Effective Date: September 27, 2022
The IWAS Institute for World Affairs & Security foundation values our visitors’ and donors’ personal information and understands the need for security and trust surrounding such information.
Information Collection & Use
When using our site, you may voluntarily provide “personal information” that identifies you as an individual, including your name and contact information. In order to use certain features of IWAS’s web and mobile properties you may be asked to register by creating a user name, and/or password. We may use the personal information that you provide for our operational purposes, including the activities described below. We may also use the information that you provide to contact you with offers or items that may interest you. You may, however, use many features of the Website without providing personal information.
When you choose to provide us with personal information, we may combine it with other information about you that we receive from third parties.
If you apply for a job/internship/volunteer position through the Website, you will be asked for personal information including your name, contact information, and educational and work history.
Supporting us in any way
If you are a mentor/advisor/work with or for us in some way, you will be asked for personal information including your name, contact information, and educational and work history. The email address if provided by IWAS is an IWAS property and would be used as such. IWAS staffers may have access to its contents and those of your work with us, long after you leave us. They may use the same for coordination. Thus, all IWAS domain email holders are to monitor their email addresses and their contents regularly.
Online Orders and Donations
If you choose to make a donation through the Website, or if you purchase a product, we request certain personal information from you, including your name, contact information, and payment information. We use this information to complete the transactions you request, including for billing purposes and to contact you if we have trouble processing an order. For donations, we may contact you to discuss the terms of your donation, and/or to invite you to donate again to IWAS. For product purchases, we may also contact you about items placed in your cart if you do not complete a purchase, and we may contact you with offers or items that may interest you.
Occasionally, we may provide you the opportunity to participate in surveys on our site or through a third-party service provider. Participation in these surveys is completely voluntary. Other than as described in this policy, we will not share the personal information you provide through a survey with third parties unless we give you prior notice and a choice to opt out. However, the contents of survey would be available to others. This means that without disclosing your name and details, they may be able to understand the demographic of the survey participants and make sense of preferences of different participant groups.
Tell a Friend/Forward to a Colleague
If you use referral services to tell a friend/colleague about our site or electronic newsletters, you will be asked to provide your name and contact information including your email address and your friend/colleague’s email address. IWAS or our service provider may use this information for the purpose of sending the one-time referred email, but may or may not not retain these email addresses, at a particular time.
We and our service providers may use various technologies to collect data automatically about your use of our Website. We may use this automatically-collected data for our operational purposes such as to administer and improve the site. We also use these technologies to personalize your experience with IWAS and to provide functions such as storing your password or recording other preferences. The technologies that we use may include, for example:

Your browser may offer tools to reject or delete cookies. If you reject cookies on your browser, you may still use our site, but your ability to use some areas of our site may be limited. Even if you set your browser to reject cookies, we may continue to collect data automatically through other technologies.

We may also send emails notifying you of other newsletters and products that may be of interest to you, including when you have placed items in your shopping cart without checking out. If you make a donation through the Website, we may contact you for our development purposes using the email address that you provide.
Newsletters and Promotional Communications: We provide you the opportunity to opt out of receiving newsletters and promotional email communications from us. If you no longer wish to receive electronic newsletters and/or promotional communications, you may opt out of receiving these communications by following the instructions included in each newsletter or communication. Non-Donor Personal Information
We may disclose non-donor personal information that we collect in the following ways:

To fulfil the purpose for which you provide it; for example, if you give us an email address to use the “subscribe to newsletter” feature of our Website, we will transmit the contents of that email and your email address to the recipient(s).
For any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information or with your consent.
As required by law; when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, property, or safety of IWAS, our customers or others; and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order or legal process served on the IWAS Institute for World Affairs & Security foundation.
We will not trade, share or sell a donor’s personal information to anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations, unless we have the donor’s specific permission to do so. Please see our Donor Guidelines for additional information on our donor practices.
